Mediterranean Vineyards

Welcome to Mediterranean Vineyards

The Vineyard

The Mediterranean is regarded as the cradle of the Old World wine industry. This region has inspired us to craft some of the best varietals from the countries around the original Mediterranean region. With the climate in Fair Play that mirrors that of the Mediterranean, we are able to bring you varietals from countries like France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. We hope that you enjoy. Santé!

MicaBorn and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Mica has an intimate knowledge of the micro-terroir soil and climate that the area has to offer. He brings that knowledge to Mediterranean Vineyards as he heads-up its vineyard and winery production facilities. Mica believes that winemaking is very much an art–not a science–and that true perfection in winemaking can only be obtained by careful management of microbial chaos. Artisan wines should in his opinion always be vineyard designate field blends and well-balanced hand crafted wines, and should exhibit yearly variation and always offer true varietal character. Mica leads the sustainable farming practices and currently farms 120 acres of vineyards in and around Fair Play. In 2018 Mica became the most awarded winemaker in El Dorado county, starting off in January with 23 medals from 24 wines entered in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the most competitive in the United States with over 7,000 entrants and less than 10% of entrants garnering medals.  Mica’s goal is to bring the El Dorado County wine region back to its ultra-premium status and take advantage of the regions hearty dirt and different elevations that allow for all varietals to be planted and sustainably farmed.

Taylor’s introduction to winemaking started with the harvest of 2011 when he joined Mica Raas, the winemaking wunderkind and one-man show at Myka Cellars. Mica needed an extra set of hands and Taylor offered his assistance in exchange for the opportunity to learn the ropes of the wine industry. This eventually led to a permanent position with the winery, and in 2016, Taylor found himself in the Sierra Foothills when Myka Cellars relocated to Placerville from Santa Cruz. Throughout the growth of the winery over the years, Taylor’s passion and personal investment in winemaking has also grown. At the beginning of 2019 Taylor advanced into the position of Winemaker for Mediterranean Vineyards, sister winery of Myka Cellars, while Mica continues to oversee viticulture and winemaking for the family of wineries.
