100% mataro (AKA mourvèdre)
As long as the weather is warm, mataro is a versatile grape that can thrive in a variety of soils. It's popular across the south of France, where it is known by its more common name, mourvèdre.
This grape is grown in many areas across Spain, including Valencia, where it is known as mataro or monastrell. We have produced this wine in more of the Spanish style, and have chosen to use its Spanish name.
This mataro offers incredible red-fruit notes of strawberry and dried cherry, followed by more complex hints of light oak spice, pepper, flowers, earth, and an herbal minty character. Its moderate tannic structure lends it a medium-full body and ability to age for up to 10 years from release.
We recommend pairing mataro with meats with lots of umami flavor, such as beef short ribs, pork shoulder, barbeque, lamb, rabbit, pork sausage and veal. Earthy vegetarian options like lentils, wild rice and shitake or portobello mushrooms also work well as pairings or sides to a main course.
